Connect from Tableau Desktop
Connect from Tableau Desktop using MotherDuck's DuckDB connector
By installing MotherDuck’s DuckDB Tableau connector and the DuckDB JDBC driver into Tableau Desktop, you can attach a DuckLake catalog from the initial SQL.
Install the connector and driver
Follow the duckdb-tableau-connector README for the steps to install the DuckDB JDBC driver and the .taco file. The steps and file locations change from time to time, so Queria does not mirror them here.
Restart Tableau Desktop after installing.
Connect from Tableau
From “Connect” → “More…”, choose “DuckDB by MotherDuck”, paste the following into the “Initial SQL” tab, and click “Sign In”.
INSTALL ducklake;
LOAD ducklake;
ATTACH 'ducklake:https://data.queria.io/e_stat/ducklake.duckdb' AS e_stat (READ_ONLY);
If the left pane shows the e_stat.ssds schema with prefecture/municipality tables such as a_pref_population, the connection succeeded. Place a_pref_population on the workspace, put area_name on rows and value on columns, and you can visualize prefecture-level population indicators as maps or rankings.
Use it from AI agents
With Tableau’s official Tableau MCP, AI agents such as Claude can query data sources on Tableau Cloud / Tableau Server in natural language.
Two prerequisites:
- Tableau MCP can only operate on content in Tableau Cloud / Server. It cannot control Tableau Desktop
- Publish the Queria data you connected on this page to Tableau Cloud / Server as a data source beforehand. Publishing itself is not among Tableau MCP’s tools, so do it from Tableau Desktop
There are two ways to connect. Follow the official documentation for details:
- Hosted — point your MCP client at
https://mcp.tableau.comand sign in with your Tableau Cloud account via OAuth. No installation required - Self-hosted — run
npx -y @tableau/mcp-server@latestauthenticated with a Personal Access Token. Use this for Tableau Server
Registering it alongside the Queria MCP server lets you move between open data exploration in Queria and queries against your published data sources within a single session:
