Compare your own data

Load your own CSV and other files in the SQL playground and compare them with open data in SQL

In the SQL playground you can load files from your computer as tables and use them in the same SQL as Queria’s open data.

Load a file

Drop a file onto “Your tables” on the left, or pick one with “Choose files”. These formats work:

  • CSV and TSV (both UTF-8 and Shift_JIS)
  • Parquet
  • JSON and JSON Lines

The table is named after the file (lowercase letters, digits and _ only; a name made only of Japanese characters becomes data, and a name that starts with a digit or is an SQL reserved word such as order gets a t_ prefix). If a table with that name already exists, a number is added from _2 on, so the earlier table is not replaced. Loaded tables are referenced as my.<table>. After loading, SELECT * FROM my."<table>" LIMIT 100 opens.

Compare with open data

A loaded table can be joined with dataset tables in the same SQL. For example, a table with a prefecture name column can sit next to population:

SELECT m.*, TRY_CAST(p.value AS DOUBLE) AS population
FROM my.facilities AS m
JOIN e_stat.ssds.a_pref_population AS p
  ON m.pref_name = p.area_name AND p.cat01 = 'A1101' AND p.year = 2020

Column names differ by table. Check each table’s columns on its table details page.

Where the data is kept

Loaded tables last only while the tab is open. Files are never sent to Queria’s servers.

  • Closing or reloading the tab clears them. Load the file again each time you use it
  • They are not visible from other tabs or devices
  • Delete a table you no longer need with the trash icon in the list

To use the data with other people or on other devices, you can publish it as a dataset (private datasets are a Pro feature).
